Report: Indy Eleven to play at Lucas Oil Stadium
INDIANAPOLIS — After weeks of negotiating a deal to bring the Indy Eleven to Lucas Oil Stadium, the club and the city’s Capital Improvement Board (CIB) have finally come to terms for use of the venue, per a report from WISH-TV on Monday morning citing “a source with knowledge of the announcement.” The team has scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. today to unveil the move.
The Indy Eleven will “play at least some” of their homes matches at Lucas Oil Stadium in 2018, according to the report. Home of the Indianapolis Colts, the stadium seats over 60,000 but will certainly be heavily curtained and/or tarp-ed down to a more reasonable number in order to improve the poor optics created by tons of empty seats.
Circumventing an unknown NFL schedule that won’t be released until April was one of several hurdles the team had to overcome, but the Eleven squashed that concern when the USL schedule got released earlier this month. Indy has no home matches scheduled on Sundays, Mondays or Thursdays when the NFL will be in-season.
Ditto for potential Thursday conflicts as well. 😉

The Indy Eleven will host their USL home opener on March 31 when they welcome well-supported FC Cincinnati to town. The match, if scheduled for Lucas Oil Stadium, figures to drastically shatter Indy’s previous attendance record of 11,048 set at Carroll Stadium in 2014.
