Minneapolis City SC’s Whitney Browne nabs Player of the Week
With so many squads in the NPSL, it generally takes a hat trick or close to it to earn Player of the Week honors. That’s exactly what Minneapolis City SC attacker Whitney Browne accomplished in Week 10.
Browne’s three-goal outing on May 19 helped carry his side to a 5-0 takedown of Dakota Fusion FC. Here are Browne’s highlights from the match, the most impressive of which was probably the silky volley at the 1:25 mark:
Known for his excellent motor among other skills, Browne seems to have found his scoring touch early this season.
“Whitney’s work rate has helped him find a new scoring component to his game which keeps defenders off-balance and makes him difficult to defend for 90 minutes,” said assistant coach Matt vanBenschoten in the press release announcing the award.
Minneapolis City SC has eight points in the NPSL North Conference from two home wins and two road draws through four league matches. The club most recently battled Duluth FC to a 1-1 truce Saturday. Browne has been huge part of City’s torrid start to the season.
“I am honored to be named the NPSL National Player of the Week,” Browne said in the release. “Although an individual award, I would like to say thanks to my teammates for putting me in the position to have a legendary game. One of the best of my career.”
MPLS City will get a full week of rest ahead of their next challenge: another away date at Viejos son los Trapos FC this Saturday.
